Books!

I’ve read some really great books lately. In fact, I read nearly 400 pages just today. I started a book last night and finished it today after dinner. It felt terribly indulgent to just sit around and read all day, but truth be told I feel kind of crappy from just sitting around and reading all day.

I know. WOE IS ME, right?

Anyway, I’ve recently started reading Princess Nebraska‘s blog (how did I find her? I cannot say!) and I really love her supershort book reviews. I’m using her lists to reserve a bunch of books at the library, because I had been slacking on library duty and kept buying books to read on my ipad. And it makes me angsty to buy books I can read for free from the library, so yay for me getting my shit together.

I’ve read several gems lately, and I’m going to follow PN’s supershort book review format:

Merle’s Door – Not sure how I found this, but I really really loved it. Probably best for dog-people.

Letters of a Woman Homesteader – Oh my goodness, I loved everything about this. I keep wanting to say “It was just delightful!” but I realize that makes me sound like I’m 70. Whatever, just read it. Probably best for girl-people.

This Is How: Proven Aid in Overcoming Shyness, Molestation, Fatness, Spinsterhood, Grief, Disease, Lushery, Decrepitude & More. For Young and Old Alike. – The reviews I’ve read of this book where people say it’s self-indulgent and not-funny are super irritating to me, because that’s sort of exactly what it’s supposed to be. It started slow and weird (I was expecting typical Borroughs, which this is not), but by the halfway point I wanted to buy copies for everyone I know. I tend to get a bit eye-rolly at self-help authors, but this dude has BEEN THROUGH THE SHIT, so you kinda can’t help but have some respect for his perspective. At least, I couldn’t help it. I thought it was awesome.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post - This is the one I gobbled up in a mere 24 hours. Extremely well-written. Just read it.

Next up, I’m going to read The Running Dream. Sounds boring, but the reviews are great. I’ll let you know!
